| This very nice movie, which was created by Mark Jessell, illustrates some of the microstructure process power of Elle. The grains undergo grain-size reduction by a subgraining routine that inserts new high angle boundaries as a probablistic function of local accumulated strain. Elle also uses a routine that generates subgrains as a function of dislocation density, which in turn is calculated as a function of local accumulated strain. Note that the grain-size reduction causes localization of the deformation, as we might expect. The colors are shear strain rate - blue is slow and red is fast. |
